Visa Interview & Additional Questions
An interview is part of verification
A Portuguese consular authority may ask an applicant to attend an interview when it needs additional information before deciding the visa application. Official guidance for Schengen short-stay visas specifically notes that an interview may be required.
Know your own application
The applicant should understand the documents they submitted and be able to explain the purpose of the stay, intended dates, accommodation, financial support and any route-specific arrangements.
Consistency matters
Interview answers should be consistent with the written application. If a circumstance has changed since submission, explain the change clearly rather than trying to force the answer to match outdated information.
Bring requested documents
If the interview notice asks for additional evidence, bring it in the format requested. Keep copies for your own records and make sure any foreign documents satisfy the required translation or authentication rules.
Avoid memorised answers
The purpose of the interview is not to recite a script. Clear, truthful and specific answers are more useful than rehearsed statements that do not reflect the application.
After the interview
The authority may continue processing the application, request further documents or move toward a decision. The interview itself is not an indication that the application will necessarily be approved or refused.
