Preparing to Travel After Visa Approval
Do not treat approval as the end of preparation
After a Portugal visa is granted, review the travel conditions and prepare the documents you may need during the journey and at the border.
Carry key evidence
Depending on the visa type, it can be useful or necessary to carry evidence of accommodation, financial means, insurance, employment, study, family purpose or other supporting information. Border authorities can ask for additional documentation when verifying entry conditions.
Check passport and visa validity
Make sure the passport is the same document used for the visa application and that both the passport and visa remain valid for the planned travel date.
Confirm accommodation and contact details
Residence applicants should know where they will stay on arrival and keep documentation relating to that address. If the accommodation changed after the visa application, make sure the new arrangement is properly documented.
Prepare for the residence stage
Holders of residence visas should keep original or updated versions of documents that may be requested by AIMA. The post-arrival residence process is separate from the consular visa decision.
Keep digital copies
Store secure copies of the passport identification page, visa, insurance, accommodation evidence and important supporting documents. This can be useful if luggage or documents are lost.
