Portugal Visa Fees & Payment

Fees depend on the visa procedure

Portugal visa fees are not identical across all application types. Short-stay Schengen visas, temporary-stay visas and residence visas can have different official fees, and exemptions or reduced rates may apply in certain cases.

Service-provider charges may be separate

If the application is submitted through an authorised external service provider, an additional service charge may apply. This is separate from the official visa fee charged for processing the application.

Confirm the accepted payment method

Consulates and application centres can use different payment methods. Some may accept cards, bank payments or local currency, while others may require a specific method. Check local instructions before attending.

Payment does not guarantee approval

A visa fee is a processing charge. Paying the fee does not guarantee that the application will be approved and, in many procedures, fees are not refundable simply because the application is refused.

Keep the receipt

Retain proof of payment together with the application reference. A receipt can be useful if the authority needs to trace the file or if there is a later question about whether a fee was paid.

Check current amounts

Fees can change. Always verify the amount on the current official service page or the instructions for the competent consulate or application centre shortly before submission.
