Portugal Visa Document Checklist

Build the application in a clear order

A Portugal visa file is easier to prepare when documents are divided into common requirements and evidence specific to the chosen route.

Core identity documents

Prepare the valid passport or travel document, required photographs and the current application form. Check that names, passport numbers and dates are consistent across the file.

Accommodation evidence

Gather the document that explains where you will stay in Portugal. For a residence route, this may be a rental agreement, ownership record or another acceptable arrangement. Short-stay applicants may use different forms of accommodation evidence.

Financial evidence

Prepare financial documents that fit the visa category. Do not submit random bank statements without explaining how they support the route. Income-based, employment, study and remote-work applications can require very different financial evidence.

Insurance

Where travel medical insurance is required, confirm that the policy covers the relevant travel period and conditions. Keep both the certificate and policy information available.

Criminal records

Long-stay applicants should determine which foreign criminal-record certificates are required and whether those documents need authentication and translation.

Route-specific documents

Employment routes can require contracts; entrepreneurs need business evidence; students need admission documents; family applicants need civil-status records; D7 applicants need regular-income evidence; D8 applicants need remote-work documentation.

Copies, originals and formalities

Check whether originals, ordinary copies or certified copies are required. Ensure multi-page documents are complete and legible. Do not cut off stamps, signatures, QR codes or reverse-side information.

Keep a duplicate file

Retain a full digital copy of everything submitted. Some documents can be useful again during the AIMA residence stage after arrival.

Final review

Use the current official checklist for the exact visa route and application location before attending the appointment.
